Developed between 1953 and 1959, the CF-105 Arrow took great pride in being the first and last supersonic interceptor built and designed in Canada. It was also recognized as a technical and aerodynamic achievement for the Canadian aviation industry. This Avro airplane was primarily designed to be the interceptor of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF), making the country ready to counter jet-powered Soviet bombers that may attack North America through the Canadian Arctic. Because of its task, this interceptor aircraft was equipped with groundbreaking technologies, such as fly-by-wire control system and computerized control system, which made the pilot capable of controlling the aircraft electronically.
