Deployed in the 1950s for the United States Air Force (USAF) service, the B-52G Stratofortress is expected to last until 2040, making it one of the longest-running aircraft in aviation history. This long-range heavy bomber could carry up to 70,000 pounds of artillery. During the Cold War, the aircraft was one of the most important machines within the US strategic bomber fleet. The aircraft also engaged in combat operations in Vietnam in the 1960s. In addition to its role in the battlefield, the B-52G won the Boeing Airplane Company the National Aeronautic Association’s Collier Trophy in 1955 for being the first long-range heavy bomber.
