Boeing F-8F Blue Angels Model Scale:1/35

By the time the F6F Hellcat was well into production, Grumman had already begun developing a design that can replace the fighter plane. It was in 1943 when the company started to consider better avionics and a stronger airframe than the Hellcat. The project gained momentum when Grumman chief test pilot Bob Hall had a chance to fly a Focke-Wulf FW-190 and relayed the avionic information he gathered to the company’s design team. Using the data, the Design 58 concept plane was drafted. It was a rough spin-off from the Hellcat as it was also powered with the Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp engine. The differences would be more on the size and weight, which translates to better speed and maneuverability. The prototype, designated as the XF8F-1, received contract for development on November 1943 and the first flight for the plane, re-designated as the Bearcat, was held ten months after. The F8F Bearcat received recognition especially after it was employed by the US Navy’s demonstration team, the Blue Angels.
