The  Lockheed L-1049 Super Constellation "Connie" is an American aircraft, a member of the Lockheed Constellation aircraft line. The Constellation family was propeller-driven airliners built by Lockheed between 1943 and 1958. A total of 856 aircraft were produced in numerous models, all distinguished by a triple-tail design and dolphin-shaped fuselage. The L-1049 was Lockheed's response to the successful Douglas DC-6 airliner, first flying in 1950. The aircraft was also produced for both the United States Navy and Air Force as transport and AWACS aircraft. This specific model is painted in the TWA paint scheme. Eastern Airlines was a major United States airline that existed from 1926 to 1991.

L-1049 Super Constellation

The Lockheed L-1049 Super Constellation is an American aircraft, a member of the Lockheed Constellation aircraft line. The L-1049 was Lockheed's response to the successful Douglas DC-6 airliner, first flying in 1950. The aircraft was also produced for both the United States Navy and Air Force as transport, electronics, and airborne early warning and control aircraft.

Operational history - The first L-1049 production flew on July 14, 1951 and received its certification in November 1951. The Wright R-3350 TurboCompound and its versions were not available for civilian use, leaving Lockheed to use a less powerful version. The aircraft service introduced with Eastern Air Lines in December 1951 flying from Miami to New York. Eastern would later operate the L-1049C and L-1049G. TWA started flying L-1049 in 1952; L-1049G TWA transatlantic flights began in 1955. In 1956 an L-1049 Super Constellation collided with a TWA DC-7 Douglas United Airlines killing all aboard both planes
