Piper J-3 Cub Model Scale:1/35

The E-2 Cub by Taylor Aircraft can be considered as the earliest ancestor of the Piper J-3 Cub. As the E-2 was an aircraft created to boost the public’s interest in aviation, it was relatively cheap compared to its contemporaries. During the later months of 1930, Taylor Aircraft declared bankruptcy, which led to a change in ownership to William Piper. Thus when Walter Jamouneau (an employee) decided to trick out an E-2 during his spare time, the resulting design carried the name “Piper” instead of “Taylor”. What Jamouneau did, however, was unauthorized and he got fired because of it. It wasn’t until the company took notice of the considerable upgrade he did when Jamouneau got his job back. The plane was named as the J-2, which some experts believe stand for the designer’s last name. The J3 Cub was officially introduced in the late 1930s as a replacement to the J-2. Most of the modifications the J-3 had were on framework and engine. In fact, the Piper J3 was powered by a lot of engines which led to a number of variants. The J3 Piper entered military service as a trainer plane during the 1939 Civilian Pilot Training Program.
